Traditions of NH Town Meeting – A Discussion hosted by the Windems In 2026, Windham is joining the nationwide America 250 celebration, commemorating the 250th anniversary of the signing of the Declaration of Independence. As part of the festivities, the Windems will be hosting a special presentation at Windham Town Hall (3 North Lowell Road) on Saturday, February 14, 2026 at 2:00pm. Storyteller, Rebecca Rule, will discuss the rituals, traditions, and history of town meeting in New England, particularly New Hampshire. This program is based on her book Moved and Seconded: NH Town Meeting, the past, present and future—a tribute to a unique institution with a storied past and an uncertain future. You will meet some of the characters who keep meetings lively. You will dip into town-meeting-inspired literature. Some call town meeting the purest form of democracy and maybe it is. It is also a microcosm of small-town life, complete with down-home wit and wisdom, and lots of dry, Yankee humor.
