Volunteers Needed!


The Board of Selectmen is currently accepting letters of interest from Windham residents to fill positions on various Town boards and committees. Letters should be submitted to the Town Administrator, 3 North Lowell Road, or via email to no later than April 26, 2019 for consideration. Interviews with the Board of Selectmen will then be scheduled for a future meeting. Please be sure to include your address and a daytime phone number. Questions should be directed to the Town Administrator, 432-7732. (Note: Some of the expiring positions are currently held by individuals who may choose to seek re-appointment. REG = Regular Member, ALT = Alternate Member

CABLE ADVISORY BOARD – 2 REG/1 ALT EXPIRING & 1 ALT VACANT: Three 3-yr & One 2-yr term. Meets the second Thursday evening of every other month. Oversees the operations of the Cable Studio and other cable-related services of the Town, particularly as liaison to the local cable provider.

CONSERVATION COMMISSION – 2 REG/1 ALT EXPIRING & 1 ALT VACANT: Three 3-yr and One 1-yr term. Meets the second and fourth Thursday evenings of each month. Deals primarily with issues such as wetland/aquifer protection and review of subdivision plans for compliance; negotiates land purchases for approval by the Selectmen.

ECONOMIC DEVELOPMENT – 3 REG EXPIRING & 1 REG/1 ALT VACANT: Three 3-yr & Two 2-yr terms. Meets the second Friday morning of each month. Assists, counsels and advises the residents, Selectmen, other Town boards/ departments, and businesses on the benefits and merits of Economic Development.

FORESTRY COMMITTEE – 2 EXPIRING: 3-yr terms. Meeting time varies. Committee is responsible for the management of the McIlvaine Town Forest in accordance with RSA 31:111.  

HIGHWAY SAFETY COMMITTEE – 1 CITIZEN VACANT: No term limit. Meeting time varies. Primary responsibility is to review resident and departmental highway safety concerns; making recommendation to the Selectmen. 

HISTORIC DISTRICT COMMISSION – 2 REG/1 ALT EXPIRING: 3-yr terms. Meets the second Thursday evening of each month. Commission is charged with oversight of the Town’s designated historic districts, and the preservation of historic resources.

HOUSING AUTHORITY – 1 EXPIRING: 5-yr term. Meeting time varies. Primary responsibility is the development of a means to provide affordable housing for the elderly. 

LOCAL ENERGY COMMITTEE – 2 REG/1 ALT EXPIRING: 3-yr terms. Meeting time varies. Primary role is to advise and assist the Town and its residents on reducing their energy usage and costs.

MUSEUM TRUSTEES – 1 REG/1ALT EXPIRING: 3-yr terms. Meets the second Wednesday evening of each month. Charged with cataloging/obtaining historical artifacts and general operations of the Town Museum. 

RECREATION COMMITTEE – 2 REG EXPIRING: 3-yr terms. Meets the third Thursday evening of each month, with some additional days for field inspections. Aids in long-term strategic planning of recreation facilities and programs; supports the Parks & Recreation Director as needed with planning, implementation, and development of recreation programs. 

SEARLES SCHOOL & CHAPEL TRUSTEES – 3 REG EXPIRING: 3-yr terms. Meeting time varies. Primary responsibility of the Trustees is the oversight of the Searles School and Chapel.

The Board is also accepting letters of interest to fill a vacant position on the elected Nesmith Library Board of Trustees. The appointment will run until the March, 2020 Town election only. This is a volunteer position for which only adults of voting age who are permanent residents of Windham will be considered. Letters of interest must be submitted to Town Administrator David Sullivan, also no later than 4:00 PM on April 26, 2019. Submissions may be made via email to, or mailed to Mr. Sullivan’s attention at 3 North Lowell Road.
