Important Notice From the Cemetery Trustees

Important Message

March 27, 2019: As posted in the local paper, on the Town website, and in the Town Hall and Administrative Office, the Cemetery Trustees met on the evening of March 26 to consider amendments to the purchase fees for burial rights, as well as to the various rules and by-laws governing the cemeteries and the Trustees. As a result of that meeting, the public is asked to make note of the following key changes which, among others, will take effect on May 1, 2019:

  • Total purchase price per standard lot will increase from $200 to $400, and for infant lots from $100 to $200. Lots within the Veteran Section remain free to qualified veterans, with spouse lots  increasing to the new standard lot fee
  • Winter burials will no longer be performed at the Cemetery on the Hill, nor will the facility be plowed or sanded during snow/ice events

Also, the Trustees have affirmed, with minor revisions, long-standing existing permissions/prohibitions relative to lots and decorations thereon. We encourage all owners of burial rights, or those who may be considering purchasing them, to visit the Trustee page on the Town website at where one can find the current regulations, as well as the newly approved versions for review. Copies can also be obtained from the Administrative Office at 4 North Lowell Road.

Implementation of these amended Regulations closely coincides with our annual spring clean-up, and we ask lot owners to refer to them before visiting to remove any seasonal decorations from their areas. Lots should be free of such decorations and other items that are prohibited or were not disposed of during the fall clean-up no later than May 6, 2019. Any such items remaining after this date may be subject to disposal by Cemetery staff. In addition, any obviously neglected plantings/bushes, or those which have been planted contrary to the Regulations, may be trimmed and/or removed as deemed necessary.

As always, the Trustees extend our gratitude for your cooperation in keeping our cemeteries as safe, natural and attractive as possible. Please feel free to email us at with any questions or concerns you may have.
